“LIGHTING THE WAY”

350NYC in partnership with the Phelps House switched out 11 floors of a NYC senior residence with LED light bulbs, saving $ and a whole lot of carbon. Thanks to everyone who donated time/money to make it happen! Watch the newly released video about our project produced by

Ermena Vinluan.  Watch the video on YouTube

Benefits of LEDs:

Lighting consumes 22 percent of the electricity produced in the United States (US Department of Energy). There’s no easier path to lessen our over-consumption of energy and save money than switching to LED (Light-Emitting Diode) bulbs.

LEDs have a long lifespan. The US Department of Energy rates LEDs as lasting 35,000-50,000 hours as compared to about 10,000 hours for CFL (Compact Fluorescent Light) bulbs and 1,000 hours for a  regular incandescent bulb!

LEDs generate no heat, so they help reduce AC costs as well during summer months.

LEDs are mercury free, unlike CFLs.

If every New Yorker switched just one CFL bulb to a LED bulb, we would collectively cut over 125 million pounds of carbon emissions per year in NYC.  Imagine how much carbon is saved switching from one incandescent bulb to energy efficient LEDs!

Together we are Lighting the Way! to stop climate change!
