As we approach the UN Summit on Climate in NYC we call on the USA to take leadership by making a deep commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Support Our Petition to President Obama
Urge President Obama to commit the U.S. to at least a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
As part of the 2014/2015 UN negotiating process for a new global climate treaty, governments are being asked to make ambitious commitments for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
We are calling on President Obama to commit the U.S. to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% by 2030 using a benchmark of 2005. This scientifically feasible reduction is to be achieved by energy conservation and efficiency and renewable forms of energy.

This is a reasonable demand that we know will only be achieved through intense struggle over the long term. We know it can be done and we will work at every level of government to challenge the fossil fuel stranglehold on our economy and our future. No president or government can achieve this alone but the USA holds a particular responsibility for leadership and we call on Obama to rise to this challenge. The voices of the people in the streets on September 21st will amplify this call to all global leaders.
