As we approach the UN Summit on Climate in NYC we call on the USA to take leadership by making a deep commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Support Our Petition to President Obama

Urge President Obama to commit the U.S. to at least a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

As part of the 2014/2015 UN negotiating process for a new global climate treaty, governments are being asked to make ambitious commitments for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

We are calling on President Obama to commit the U.S. to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% by 2030 using a benchmark of 2005. This scientifically feasible reduction is to be achieved by energy conservation and efficiency and renewable forms of energy.

This is a reasonable demand that we know will only be achieved through intense struggle over the long term.  We know it can be done and we will work at every level of government to challenge the fossil fuel stranglehold on our economy and our future. No president or government can achieve this alone but the USA holds a particular responsibility for leadership and we call on Obama to rise to this challenge. The voices of the people in the streets on September 21st will amplify this call to all global leaders.

March with the 350NYC Contingent

The People’s Climate March begins at Columbus Circle @ 11:30 am on Sept 21st. Each contingent is being assigned a special location and time to gather before we start marching.  Sign up here to march with the 350NYC Contingent. We’ll contact you about where and when to meet as soon as we know the details.  We have t-shirts, signs and banners and encourage you to bring drums and other music makers!
Moving into the final stretch of planning for the People’s Climate March we are excited and energized by the many activities and deep conversations about how to sustain our movement for the long term.  The PCM is not an ‘event’ – it is a major launch on a global scale for a “movement of movements”.  We are building networks and collaborations that will strengthen us through political and community organizing for the coming years.   So, put on your walking shoes and march with us on September 21st and sign up with the 350NYC Meetup Group to stay connected as we move forward.
