May 5-16 Global Divestment Week NYC Events & May 8th State Lobby Day

May 5th – 13th Global Divestment Mobilization

Climate change is happening now.

The business model of the fossil fuel industry is in no way compatible with a safe climate. Join us and many other divestment organizers this week to advocate for the #DivestNY movement and demand that our institutions show their leadership and acknowledge the damage fossil fuels cause.

It’s time to divest from the industry that’s wreaking havoc on our communities.

There’s a big battle brewing in New York, home to half a dozen of the largest pension funds in the country. We love NY, but we don’t love that one of our most progressive states is still investing billions in the likes of Exxon, and the companies funding the Dakota Access and Keystone pipelines.

Linked here is a day-by-day toolkit on actions you can take to ensure NY breaks ties with an industry that is holding us back from a clean and socially just future. Outlined below are a few of those actions:

Monday, May 8th #DivestNY LobbyDay
Westminster Presbyterian Church
Chestnut Street, Albany NY

Join us in Albany to support The Fossil Fuel Divestment Act, A3712 Ortiz / S4596 Krueger which will require New York to divest the $170 billion state pension fund from fossil fuels.  Currently, the pension fund invests more than $10 billion in fossil fuel companies, and more than $400 million in the Dakota Access Pipeline. Burning fossil fuels causes climate destruction like Superstorm Sandy that devastated New York and caused over $65 billion in damages.
