State of the Climate – Albany

Rally and March at the State Capital

January 13, 2016 @10:30am

Bus from NYC 7:00am Westchester 8:00am

Take Paris to Albany Jan 13th for “State of the Climate”! Rally and March at the State Capital in conjunction with Cuomo’s State of the State Address. After COP21, we need to keep the pressure on to ensure New York keeps fossil fuels in the ground and makes a just and rapid transition to renewables.

The Governor is going to make climate change a major part of his 2016 State of the State address. The Paris agreement lowered the goal for curbing global warming from 2 degrees to 1.5 degrees centigrade. This will require NYS and all other governments to dramatically increase their targets and speed for moving to renewables.

“State of the Climate” is a big tent approach to climate change. Broad themes will include Rapid Climate Action / Justice, 100% renewables, Good Jobs, Just Transition, Equity. There will be speakers re 100% Renewables Now NY, No to Fossil Fuels / stop gas pipelines and infrastructure, divestment, no to coal and nukes, yes to off-shore wind, community solar, stop oil bomb trains, environmental justice, CCA, carbon tax, geothermal, etc.

We will start with an outdoor rally at the Capitol at 10:30. We will link with other social movements – such as the Fight for $15 an hour minimum wage – that will be there that day. Heavy focus on upbeat visuals – wind mills, solar panels, snow balls etc.

After the rally, we will march to the convention center to have a presence (leaflet) as officials go to hear the Governor’s talk at noon.

The rally and march are Sponsored by: 100% Renewables Now NY, 350NYC, Peoples Climate Movement NY, PAUSE, Sane Energy Project, Bronx Climate Justice North, Green Education and Legal Fund, NYS Sustainable Business Council, Green Party, Rochester People’s Climate Coalition, Grassroots Environmental Education, Stop the NY Gas Fracked Pipeline, Food and Water Watch, United for Action, NYC Friends of Clearwater, WESPAC, Citizen Action of NY, Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition, New Paltz Climate Action Coalition, Fossil Free Tompkins, We Are Seneca Lake, Gas Free Seneca (list in formation)

  1. This is an important cause. I did a paper on Photovoltaic solar panels during college and the company we presented to ended up using it and saving a lot of money. We need to do what we can to preserve what we have.
