Cuomo Harvard Club

Rally to Tell Governor Cuomo to Veto Port Ambrose

Monday April 13, 2015 – 11:15 am to 1:00 pm

Outside of Harvard Club at 27 West 44th Street

(between 5th Ave and Ave of the Americas)

Governor Cuomo will be coming to speak at a fundraiser at the Harvard Club. It’s a chance for us to bring our message directly to Governor Cuomo to urge him to veto Port Ambrose. Please bring your banners and home made signs.

In order to stop Port Ambrose, we need to focus on Governor Cuomo and Governor Christie because they must exercise their authority to veto this project. We just need one of the Governors to exercise his veto power. If they remain silent, then it is deemed that they have given their approval. Please call Governor Cuomo (518) 474-8390 and Governor Christie (609) 292-6000, as often as you can, and tell them to veto Port Ambrose.

We’re Ready for Hillary to Say: No Keystone XL!

Monday 4/13 @5PM

1 Pierrepont Plaza, Brooklyn

Hillary Clinton is officially announcing her campaign for President this Sunday. But she still hasn’t announced any kind of position on an issue of national significance — the Keystone  XL Pipeline. For years, she’s bobbed and weaved as reporters tried to ask her where she stands on the massive carbon bomb, always giving some variation of “no comment” in response. But Presidential candidates don’t get that luxury — they owe the American people an explanation on where they stand. Keystone XL is the fuse to one of the biggest carbon bombs on Earth, and would unlock development of Canada’s tar sands oil field. Where does Hillary stand?

Join us on Monday, as we call on Hillary to take a stand on Keystone XL. We’ll have signs, speakers and are expecting media to be there, but we’ll need a good crowd to turn out and make some noise. See you then!

Building a Just, Sustainable, and Nuclear-Free World

Monday, April 13, at 7:00 p.m.

Brooklyn Friends Meetinghouse
110 Schermerhorn Street, Brooklyn
Directions: All subways to downtown Brooklyn [map]

Just four years after the disaster at Fukushima Daiichi, nuclear power is being promoted as a “clean, green” solution to climate change; the number of nuclear power plants is expected to double globally over the next 20 years.

And the United States has just announced that it will “upgrade” its nuclear arsenal of 7,500 weapons to the tune of $1 trillion. Russia and the other seven nuclear states are following suit. When attention should be focused on halting climate change, building a sustainable world, and ending racial and economic injustice, we appear to be building for war instead.
Brooklyn For Peace/Climate Action and the Brooklyn Friends/Peace and Social Action Committee invite you to a panel discussion of these disturbing trends.
Speakers:

  • Marilyn Elie: Founding member, Indian Point Safe Energy Coalition
  • Joseph Gerson: AFSC; author of Empire and the Bomb: How the U.S. Uses Nuclear Weapons to Dominate the World
Endorsers: Bay Ridge Peace Action, Earth Rights Institute, Fort Greene Peace, Give Them a Hand Foundation, Green Party of Brooklyn, Muslim Community Network, Park Slope United Methodist Church, Sane Energy Project, System Change, Not Climate Change, United African Congress, United For Action, and 350NYC
