Come to the NYC premiere of:  THE WISDOM TO SURVIVE: Climate Change, Capitalism & Community

Judson Memorial Church – located at 55 Washington Square South, NYC, 10012. (W. 4th St Subway)

Free  (no tickets – first come first served)

Filmmakers John Ankele & Anne Macksoud present:
“A starkly prophetic film. It combines the direst of warnings with deep love of life. Better than any other film I know, it makes clear that our profit-oriented growth economy has caused the climate catastrophe and cannot itself rescue us from disaster. We need new thinking and a new way of life.”
—Tom F. Driver, Paul Tillich Professor Emeritus of Systematic Theology, Union Theological Seminary

“Brilliant, achingly poignant. Please SEE THIS FILM—bring it to your community, talk about it, share it with others. It is one of the most artfully-rendered films on the planet’s crisis (and how we move through it) I have ever seen. Extraordinarily moving.”
—Shyla Nelson, Founder, One Earth One Voice Campaign

In discussions with thought leaders and activists, The Wisdom to Survive explores how unlimited growth lies behind climate disruption, and is devastating our planet’s life support system, our social fabric, and the lives of billions of people.

Featured: Bill McKibben (350.org), author Joanna Macy, whale scientist Roger Payne, Herschelle Milford (Surplus People Project), Quincy Saul (Ecosocialist Horizons), and more.

Through their non-profit company Old Dog Documentaries, Macksoud and Ankele have produced timely documentaries on urgent issues about the environment, social justice, and spirituality for over 25 years. Like their past films, The Wisdom to Survive supports Old Dog’s mission of promoting environmental justice and inspiring viewers to become activists. TPP: CORPORATE POWER GRAB: Can Democracy Survive?

Global City NOT Global Governance: How Fast Tracking Global Trade Agreements takes the NY Say out of NYC

WHEN: Tuesday, May 13th, 2014, 7 PM – 9 PM, $5 donation requested

WHERE: NY Society for Ethical Culture, 2 West 64th St., Manhattan A,C,D,B, or 1 train to Columbus Circle

RSVP + TPP Info: http://tradejustice.net/513. $5 donation requested.

Global trade agreements that are “Fast Tracked” through Congress, like the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), harm us in ways we don’t know about until it is too late. Like NAFTA, the TPP will outsource jobs, hurt our environment, threaten food safety and access to medicines, limit internet freedom and roll back recent Wall St. regulations. The “investor-state” provision will also severely limit our rights as New Yorkers to pass laws and reforms as we see fit. If we do, we could be sued by large corporations for damaging their “future expected profits.”

Ban Fracking at Democratic Convention (5/22, Long Island)
Tell Governor Cuomo to Ban Fracking at the State Democratic Convention!

On May 22, Governor Cuomo is attending the Democratic Convention on Long Island – and we must be there in full force demanding a ban on fracking.

This is a very important event for Cuomo – and for New Yorkers fighting to protect our state from fracking. Cuomo will describe his vision for New York’s future – and we must show him the power of the movement demanding it be frack-free.

Cuomo will ask New Yorkers for their support – and New Yorkers will call on him to ban fracking and stop fracking infrastructure, including the Port Ambrose liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility off the coast of scenic Long Beach.

WHEN: Thursday, May 22, 10:00 am – noon

WHERE: State Democratic Convention, Hilton Long Island/Huntington Hotel, 598 Broad Hollow Road, Melville

TRANSPORTATION: Buses from Manhattan, Westchester, Rockland, and Hudson Valley will be available

For more information, contact Eric Weltman at Food & Water Watch: 718-943-9085; eweltman@fwwatch.org.
