“Two busloads of New Yawkers made the trip down to DC yesterday for the Reject and Protect rally. It was a moving experience to stand in solidarity with the folks on the front line in Nebraska, in a high-energy crowd of thousands.” (Pat Almonrode)
This was a powerful day of remembering where we come from and strengthening our commitment to protect all life on this beautiful planet. The mining of the tar sands is already devastating the lives of entire communities in Alberta, destroying the landscape and sickening the people. The Keystone KL pipeline is a clear an immediate danger to our ecosystem and it must be stopped. KXL has also taken on a deeper symbolic meaning for those who protect the planet for the future generations. Described by one of the speakers at the rally as ‘a black snake that threatens us’, it would carry its poison right through the heart of the USA and we would all witness its effects for years to come. But that’s not going to happen because we are not letting up on this fight. The rally in DC demonstrated that we stand strong and united and we know that we can win.
